CREATIVE OUTLET KINGS AND QUEENS

COMMUNITY ADULT CLASSES/WORKSHOPS

As an ambassador for the arts,  JGCO has helped shape the viewpoint that dance is an accessible art form of creative expression for all -- especially young, black teenage boys. The organization uses its performances and donor relationships to illustrate artistic value among community leaders and legislators. In JGCO’s view, the arts are fundamental to building bridges between cultures, encouraging people from different ethnic, religious, race, gender and age to explore their shared humanity. The organization will continue to advocate for increased investments and support for arts and culture programming in schools and low-income communities throughout Brooklyn and New York City.

JGCO believes that the benefits of dance extend beyond professional development for aspiring young artists. Dance and movement help to enhance the quality of life for the youth and families. JGCO’s teaching artists deliver interactive lecture-performances and workshops to thousands of young people ages K-12 to help the youth achieve positive social, emotional milestones through creative expression. JGCO partners with more than 40 public schools throughout New York City, having served 10,000 students annually.

Deeply rooted in the community, JGCO has cultivated audiences across Brooklyn (Bed-Stuyvesant, East New York, Ft. Greene, Clinton Hill, Williamsburg, Park Slope) and other parts of the city (Hell's Kitchen, Greenwich Village, Upper West Side, Laurelton, Jamaica, Long Island City, and Staten Island).

JGCO enjoys the support of many community and faith-based leaders because of its offer of dance theatre programming to children and youth in residential areas deserted by major cultural institutions.
